Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of leadership in improving the performance of public organizations and to identify the leadership styles applied by leaders in public organizations. This research employs a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation involving leaders and public sector employees. Data analysis was conducted through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that leadership plays a strategic role in enhancing public organizational performance, particularly through leaders’ ability to provide direction, motivation, guidance, and to create a conducive work environment. The leadership style applied tends to be participative and situational, where leaders involve employees in decision-making and adapt their leadership style to organizational conditions. Effective leadership is proven to improve work discipline, employee commitment, and overall public organizational performance. This study is expected to contribute theoretically and practically to the development of leadership practices in the public sector.
