Accuracy of the Translations of English Noun Phrases into Indonesian Using Google Translate

Abstract

This research aims at finding out of the accuracy level of Google Translate from English into Indonesian. This research was a descriptive qualitative research. The main source of the data was the output translation of Google Translate. The sample noun phrases of this research were putted from Rysava‟s (2012:5-8, 14, 17, 25-26, 34-37, 39, 41-42). There were twenty five samples of noun phrases. The researchers took three translators as the population of target readers because it was assumed that the possible users of Google Translate were translators. After analyzing the data, the researchers found out from the 25 data of noun phrases, 11 data as accurate translation, 13 data as less accurate translation, and 1 data as inaccurate translation. Or in percentage, 1,31 as accurate translation, 1.04 as less accurate translation, and 0.04 as inaccurate translation. A translation can be regarded as accurate if the percentage is 1.31 until 2.00. On the contrary, it is regarded as less accurate translation if the percentage is 0.71 until 1.30, and inaccurate ifthe percentage is 0.01 until 0.70. In short, the researchers concluded that the accuracy of the translations of English noun phrases into Indonesian using Google Translate is less accurate.
