The Politeness between the Teacher and Students at Grade Ten of SMATeladan Pematangsiantar

Abstract

This research is about politeness between teacher and grade X students of SMA Teladan Pematangsiantar. This research aimed to see the politeness rules at SMA Teladan Pematangsiantar.To answer the problem above, the writer uses the theory of Leech (1983). The related theory that the writer uses are : Peccei (1999), Grice (1975), Brown and Levinson (1987). This research uses the teacher and students at SMA Teladan on Jln.Singosari Pematangsiantar as the subject of this study and their conversation as the object of this study. This study focused in their communication by mobile phone recorder.The data analysis and interpretation shows that the politeness have a felicity condition in their classroom conversation, those are asking and answering, uses greeting, giving command, and giving response in their conversation and also they speak polite to the other. In the interpretation and findings, there are found some function and rules of the teacher and students interaction.At last, the conclusion and suggestion will help the teacher of SMA Teladan teach the students. The conclusion is the teacher and the students politeness have the rules in asking, answering, giving command and giving response.
