Abstract

This study attempted to find out the effect of Grammar Translation Method on reading comprehension of grade eight students of SMP N 2 Siantar, the effect of Student Teams-Achievement Division (STAD) method on reading comprehension of grade eight students of SMP N 2 Siantar, the effect of Teams Games Tournament (TGT) method on reading comprehension of grade eight students of SMP N 2 Siantar, whether the effect of Teams Games Tournament (TGT) is more significant than the effect of Student Teams-Achievement Division (STAD) or than the effect of Grammar Translation Method on reading comprehension of grade eight students of SMP N 2 Siantar. This research applied quantitative method by using experimental design in which pre test and post test were done. The result revealed that there is an effect of Grammar Translation Method on reading comprehension of grade eight students of SMP N 2 Siantar. It can be proven from the mean score for pretest is 51.8 while the means score in posttest is 61.26. There is an effect of STAD Method on reading comprehension of grade eight students of SMP N 2 Siantar.
