Household waste burning remains common in rural communities as it is considered a quick and easy method of waste management. The lack of waste management facilities, low environmental awareness, and a weak waste transportation system are the main reasons why this practice persists. This study aims to examine the practice of waste burning in Paropo Village, Silahi Sabungan District, evaluate its impact on residents' health and the environment, and design more environmentally friendly waste management alternatives. The method used is a qualitative descriptive approach through direct observation, interviews with residents and village officials, documentation, and reflection on the activities carried out. The Community Service and Empowerment Lecture Program (KPPM) was then implemented as an effort to raise awareness and directly practice better waste management. Field findings indicate that waste burning has negative impacts such as air pollution, health problems, and environmental damage. However, the participatory approach through education and joint cleaning activities, which are the core of the KPPM program, has proven effective in raising awareness and changing community habits. This confirms that waste management solutions that involve active community participation can be a strategic step to reduce the habit of burning waste and promote environmental sustainability in rural areas.
